Acne-prone skin can make you feel very self-conscious. Over the years there has been some movement to make acne acceptable, with such people as Kendall Jenner uploading a photo of at the Golden Globes of her acne. However, there are also ways in which it can be treated and ingredients that have been found to be helpful, such as, Salicylic Acid, Retinol and Clay.

Some people might find themselves with acne during their teenage years, however, some people might find that they get it later in life. The American Academy of Dermatology found that 54% of women over 25 have acne. In the UK, there has been a study of 92 dermatology clinics found a 200% rise in the number of adults seeking specialist acne treatment in 2015.

Try this routine to improve the appearance of your acne-prone skin:

Cleanse- One of the large factors that cause acne is clogged pores. Therefore making sure that your skin is as clean as possible can be very helpful in preventing more spots from arising. Effective cleaning can also help to boost your skin’s hydration, which can also be helpful in preventing acne as well as other skincare issues such as signs of ageing.

Try our Dynamic Salicylic Acne & Blemish Battling Cleanser, containing Salicylic Acid which works deeper into your skin than AHAs. "AHAs work well on the skin's surface to loosen old, dead skin and reveal fresh newer skin," says Ron Robinson. "Salicylic acid works deeper [and is] able to penetrate into the pores to unclog them."

Tone- This is just as important to your skin as it helps to keep your skin clean. Even cleaning up little bits of dirt, makeup or excess oil that you’re cleanser might’ve missed. It also helps to maintain your skin’s natural pH.

Moisturiser- When you have acne-prone skin you might not think that it’s important to keep your skin hydrated. In most cases when you dehydrate your skin, the opposite happens and your skin overcompensates oil production.

Our Proactive Salicylic Acne & Imperfections Repair Treatment contains Salicylic Acid which works to "dissolve skin debris that clogs pores, [acts] as an anti-inflammatory and also helps red inflamed pimples and pustules go away faster," explains Naissan O. Wesley, a board-certified dermatologist in Los Angeles.

Once a week, treat your skin to a luxurious Face Mask as part of your skincare routine. These are beneficial because they are designed to stay on your skin longer. Therefore the ingredients within them can penetrate deeper into your skin. The right kind of face mask can help to not only moisturise your skin, as well as remove excess oils and improve the appearance of pores.

Try our Intense Acne Battling & Purifying French Green Clay Mask which aims to lift away impurities. It’s enriched with the highest quality of ingredients to help unclog congested pores, sweep away excess oil and gently exfoliate to remove dead skin cells.
