Protecting Your Hands

person Posted By: Alison Stubbs

Your hands are a very important part of your body. We use them for innumerable things from expressing ourselves, to working hard during your job and day to day life. As they come across various things every day, you might notice that it’s doing them some harm. You might experience dryness and notice signs of ageing. This is because the skin on especially the backs of your hands is thinner than the rest.

How do I look after my hands?

  • Wear rubber gloves more often

Your hands come into contact with some harmful things when it comes to housework! It doesn’t mean unfortunately that you can’t do it but just simply wearing gloves when you’re doing the washing up can help to protect your hands from any dryness.

  • Exfoliate your hands once a week

The skin on the back of your hands are particularly thin, they don’t contain much fat. As we age, we lose fat in our skin in general and especially when it comes to our hands our veins and bones become more prominent. When it comes to exfoliating your hands this makes your skin looking revitalised and glowing. It is possible that you can over-exfoliate your skin and this can lead to your hands appearing drier.

Take a look at our Instant Pro-Lux Hand Exfoliator for an exfoliator that can help nourish your hands and lower arms to leave your skin feeling soft and supple.

  • When applying moisturiser, first apply it to the back of the hands

It might seem like the palms of your hands feel drier than the rest of your hands. However, the back of your hands needs more moisture than your palms because of the lack of fats that have been mentioned earlier.

  • Massage your hands

When your rubbing a moisturiser into your hands make sure to also rub into your hands in a way that will nourish your hands. Massage the cream into your palms in circular motions to relax and release any stress or pain in your hands.

Look after your skin with our Sumptuous Glycolic Acid Hand Balm to help restructure and regenerate your skin.
