self-care for self-quarantine

person Posted By: Ella Calland

At this confusing and isolating time, it is important to maintain a self-care regime.

Many of us find sustenance and a sense of well-being from socialising. Something as simple as sharing a smile with a fellow commuter can brighten our day. We will be deprived of these daily ‘pick me ups’ when confined to our homes.

Don’t despair! We can create routines which can ground us in these uncertain times and bring us the nourishment that we need.

These are some activities you can implement in your days at home that will help keep you happy and healthy whilst in quarantine:

1. Online Fitness, Yoga & Meditation

Fitness is not all about the physical gains, it also has a transformational effect of your mental well-being.

It is important to find new ways of working out, without the motivation of a gym subscription. There is a huge range of work-out videos available for free on Youtube.

POPSUGAR Fitness covers buzzed-about fitness trends and hosts celebrity trainers. Incorporating their ‘35-Minute Pure Joy Yoga, Cardio & Meditation Session’ into your daily routine is a great way to stay grounded and keep fit at home.

2. Schedule Skype Catch ups

It has never been more important to check in with your loved ones. Although our weekly coffee dates and after-work drinks are off the table for a while, we can find other ways to connect with one another.

By scheduling in Skype catch-ups with your friends & family you avoid losing touch during quarantine. Put aside some time, make yourself a hot drink and have a virtual coffee date!

Netflix Party is also a great way to host virtual movie nights. It adds a group chat to your video playback so you can share your live reactions with your friends.

3. Maintain a Skincare Routine

Self-care is crucial in maintaining a positive self-image, so make sure you are being kind to yourself during quarantine.

Taking the time to maintain a skincare routine is a great way to pamper yourself at home. Face and eye mask treatments allow you to take 15-20 minutes out of your day to just sit back, relax and let the masks do the work.

Staying in will result in less natural absorption of nutrients, so it is important to use moisturisers and serums that contain vitamins to replenish you. Your skin is one of the largest organs your body has, so it is important to keep it healthy and resilient.

4. Release Yourself From Expectations

Don’t feel pressure to use this time wisely and create a masterpiece, allow yourself to relax and recover from the trauma of the pandemic.

However, if you’re restless, applying yourself to a hobby or developing a new skill will not only help fill your time; it will also boost your self-esteem.

So, whether you’re starting that project you’ve never had time to do, taking up a new hobby or simply allowing yourself to unwind, make sure to navigate this time in a way that suits you.

5. Get Out In Nature Whenever You Can

Just like our plant friends, we need water, sunlight and fresh air to flourish. Try and get out into nature at any opportunity. Whether you have a garden, a balcony or even just an open window, breathe in as much of the outside world as possible.

Even though we can’t travel the same distance, we can try and bring fun into our homes. Get creative, plan different evening events to look forward to, whether that be a skype catch up, a pamper session or a virtual movie night.

Stay safe and healthy, let's emerge on the other side with a newfound sense of gratitude for the simple things.
