Why Scalp Exfoliation Should Be A Part Of You Haircare Routine

person Posted By: Ailsa Watson

While it's important to exfoliate your skin on a weekly basis, did you know that scalp exfoliation is also just as important?

We tell our readers the importance of exfoliating your skin weekly, but it is also a key step to creating a healthy, beneficial haircare routine.

While wash day may be a dreaded term, with a lot of us mastering the working from home slick back bun, we are here for giving our luscious locks some much needed TLC.

Please welcome our NEW scalp scrub, The Serene Scalp Recovery Exfoliating Treatment. A spring-clean for your scalp, working to sweep away build-up, balancing oils and fighting flakes to keep your hair follicles healthy.

Most of us know the feeling of freshly cleaned bed sheets, a hot bubble bath, the first sip of wine after a long hard day or the smell of freshly cut grass but have you ever experienced the feeling after scalp exfoliation day! If not, you’re missing out.

The Benefits Of Using A Scalp Exfoliator

Similar to a face exfoliator, scalp exfoliators help to remove impurities and product build up from the hair and scalp.

  • Removes Build Up - When your hair follicles are blocked up with build up from hairspray, dry shampoo or styling products, it can stop your hair from growing healthily.

  • Encourages Hair Growth - If you are on your hair growth journey, scalp exfoliation is great for promoting hair growth. Removing your dead skin cells from you scalp, encourage cellular turnover, helping to promote clean, fresh, new cells to grow.

  • Promotes Glossy, Shiny Hair - Rich in Sarcosine, our scalp treatment aims to enhance the feel and appearance of damaged hair, helping to improve its body, sheen and suppleness.

How To Exfoliate Your Scalp

To ensure your getting the most out of your scalp exfoliator, we’ve written a guide on how to exfoliate your scalp. One of our top tips is to be gentle, just like when you exfoliate your face, you want to ensure you are applying the product gently to avoid irritation.

1. Before shampooing and conditioning, rinse and comb through hair and separate sections of your hair.

2. Apply the exfoliator directly onto scalp. Use soft, gentle circular motions to removed the dead skin cells from the scalp. A pea-sized amount is often enough for shorter hair.

4. Rinse all traces of the exfoliator from your hair and scalp.

#AvantTips: To help nourish your hair after using scalp scrub, we recommend using our Expert Biotin Restoring & Restructuring Hair Mask-in-Serum which leaves you with thicker, smoother, healthier hair, whilst deeply cleansing and restoring pH levels.

How Often Should I Use A Scalp Exfoliator?

With any form of exfoliation, you do run the risk of over-exfoliation. This can lead to cell damage, broken skin, sensitivity and irritation. We recommend using a scalp exfoliator once per week, or once per two weeks depending on your scalp.
