Exfoliating For Your Skin Type

Firstly, what is exfoliating and why should you do it?
Exfoliating is the removal of dead skin cells and built-up dirt from the skin's surface. The upper layer of your skin called the epidermis, sheds every 30 days and reveals the skin from the middle layer, called the dermis. However sometimes some skin cells don't fully shed, and this can lead to dry skin, clogged pores, and flaky skin.
Exfoliating helps the turnover cycle and can help allow skincare to penetrate deeper, clean clogged pores, and even out skin tone. But if not done properly or with inappropriate products It can lead to excessive dryness, irritation, redness, and sensitivity.
How often should you exfoliate?
It's best to exfoliate two to three times a week. Finding a good balance with using an exfoliator is important - whilst you want to buff away those dead skin cells, you want to avoid stripping the skin's natural oils which are vital for keeping your skin hydrated and protected. Because different exfoliators work for different skin types, it's important to consider your skin type before choosing:
For skin that is dry, normal, combination or oily, we suggest our Glycolic Acid Rejuvenating Face Exfoliator. Glycolic Acid aims to penetrate deep within the skin, treating fine lines, blackheads, and oiliness for a more youthful appearance.
For acne-prone or oily skin our Pro Salicylic Blue Minerals is the one for you. Salicylic acid is an active skincare ingredient that controls sebum (oil) and keeps pores clear, helping unclog pores, whilst also reducing shine and mattifying skin.
For more tired and sensitive-prone skin, the Probiotics Sensitive Pore Refining Exfoliator is the one for you. Probiotics work to soothe inflammation, strengthen the skin's barrier, and diminish blemishes.
If you're on the search for a good all-around exfoliator, the Gentle Rose Beautifying Face Exfoliant is our recommendation. It's packed with Vitamin B, Rose extracts and other gentle ingredients that intensely hydrate, smooths wrinkles, soften skin and help to reduce redness.
Not forgetting the hands and lower arms either though, the Instant Pro-Lux Hand Exfoliator is perfect for keeping your hands moisturised, whilst smoothing over those fine lines, and preventing premature ageing.
