How To Prepare Your Skin For Spring

To guide us through the warm-weather transition, Avant Skincare spoke to Nicola Liberos, an aesthetician at Omniya Clinic, about how to transition your skin from winter to spring. Read her tips, below.

Dr. what happens to our skin after a long winter?

The cold weather in winter and dry air removes moisture from the skin, leaving skin feeling dry, chapped, red, and flaky. It can also exacerbate skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

Why do we need to prep our skin for transitioning from winter to spring?

SPF should be applied daily throughout the year, not just during summer. UVA rays remain constant throughout the year and can penetrate through clouds, fog, and glass. Use exfoliating products to encourage the shedding of dead, dull skin cells and a lightweight hydrating moisturiser containing Hyaluronic Acid.

Do we need to build a new routine for spring?

I recommend adapting your skincare routine to suit the seasons. Lighter moisturisers, antioxidant-based skincare, and water-based serums are all excellent products to include in your Spring skincare routine.

Which skincare actives are a must-have for spring?

Retinols are still safe to use during the spring and are an excellent skincare treatment to help exfoliate, brighten, and improve fine lines and wrinkles. However, Retinol can only be used at night. Vitamin C is another favourite, an antioxidant that helps improve skin issues, including ageing, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles and uneven skin tone and texture. Vitamin C can be used both day and night.
